Default Guns are Dangerous

Having more guns in a school won't solve the problem. Don't you think it will increase the odds that a teacher might go crazy and shot someone? Or having guns around kids will make it more likely that a student will get the gun and get hurt? More guns mean more chances for people being kiiled.

Default Be Real

Come on. Teachers have a hard time keeping glue from kids. How are they supposed to keep a gun safe in the classroom?

I have seen some schools where it might require that...but that si why we have police officers I would think....a teacher shouldn't have to carry a weapon and shouldn't

absolutely not. There should never be a situation where a teacher conceals a weapon in the classroom. If the school is having that many problems it needs to look at some of the policies in place and then if necessary, hire security and install metal detectors - but no guns in the classroom.

Default Trained Administrators

If a school doesn't have a resource officer I see nothing wrong with a couple of trained administrators or possibly teachers having access to a weapon in case of a violent circumstance. I'm not aware of anyone who has passed the concealed weapon background check and taken training who has abused the situation. Maybe if the crazies out there had a few armed people out there they would think twice before threatening our children and schools. I personally don't see the difference between police in the school with a weapon and a principal or teacher if they have been trained.

Trained police officers go through MUCH more extensive training than someone who completes a concealed weapon check and a short training course.

If schools are afraid of violence and think they need someone carrying a weapon on their grounds, then I'd be much more comfortable with a police officer than a teacher. A teacher's job is to teach.

I just came across this article todat about a school district that is about an hour from myself. They're obviously taking the issue of school safety seriously.

Quote:
Tulsa - Are Tulsa schools safe enough? Right now, Tulsa Public Schools is considering beefing up security -- possibly with its own police officers. NewsChannel 8's Kim Jackson went to find out how it might work.

Right now, high schools have a combination of security officers, plus Tulsa police officers, who patrol the area. And, the district is considering adding its own police force.

School resource officers respond quickly to problems on campus. If students are truant, an actual police officer might stop them. Tulsa Public Schools is considering who a campus police force might work and how they would work in conjunction with Tulsa police officers as well as security guards located at middle and high schools.

Jenks Public Schools already has a police force and says their officers police their district independently.

"We have six officers that patrol all our campuses," says Jack Meyers. "We have seven campuses in two different cities. We patrol those on a regular basis, 24/7 and then we respond as needed."

Tulsa Public Schools is still in the planning stages, although they have hired a lobbyist to go after federal funds to pay for police on campus.
